Goals Galore on a Great Day of Football

Writer: L&C MediaL&C Media

The back of the net bulged many times during a weekend which saw well over 100 goals scored across the L&C.

Rochdalians have enjoyed a great season but their good run was ended in the Lancashire Amateur Cup last 32 by former L&C champions Moston Brook who eased to a 6-0 win.

The other County Cup match involved unbeaten Salford Vics playing in

the Manchester Challenge Trophy Semi-Final at Egerton and they put on a great show before losing 2-1.

Joe Axon gave Vics the lead with cracking left foot shot, but two defensive errors in the last fiften minutes cost them dearly in a game they had dominated for sixty minutes.

In Vics’ absence, there was an abundance of goals in the Premier Division.

A terrific encounter at the new Hough End 3G facility saw Pro United and Bedians play some exciting football ending a 10-goal spectacular.

It was nip and tuck in the first half and Pro United led 3-2 going into the break before Eric Agyemang completed his hat-trick to level the scores.

Jude Carswell put Bedians ahead early in the second half and Rylan McEvoy made it 5-3 on 80 minutes and Bedians kept up their momentum to add two more late goals for a 7-3 win which keeps them well placed in the top three.

Hazel Grove were also in the goals winning 6-1 at Bury Ams to keep in the title mix and another exciting game saw Trafford United and Bollington United share six goals.

Just one point separates the top three teams in Division One who all posted victories and have played the same number of games.

Leaders AFC Stockport were in the goals with a 5-3 win over Richmond Rovers and level on points are Chadderton Cott who edged a tight game at Hattersley 3-2.

Rushford Park are a point further back after a 4-0 win over Moston Brook Reserves. Rushford’s Eden Fallon broke the deadlock on the counter attack in the first half before his 30-yard wonder strike after the break doubled the advantage. From there, Rushford moved clear, notching another two to round off the scoring.

Trafford Reserves are on the heels of the top three with a 3-1 win over Dukinfield Athletic and the other game saw Elton Fold defeat FC Babylon 3-0.

It’s also very competitive in Division Two and Santos hit top spot from Stretford Paddock Reserves and non-playing Rochdalians.

Santos entertained Tintwistle Reserves and won 5-2. The visitors took a first minute lead but were immediately pegged back with a Ben Marshall strike.

A long-range free kick was misjudged by the defence gave Tintwistle a half time lead but parity was restored at the start of the second half with Mike Patterson.

Tintwistle had chance to retake the lead but missed with a penalty and it proved crucial as Santos made them pay through a Tom Barnes goal sandwiched between two from Patterson who completed his hat-trick.

Paddock enjoyed a big win over Cavaliers and keeping in the title race were Didsbury who beat Hillgate 3-0 while Mellor Reserves enjoyed a 5-1 win over Abacus Media Reserves.

Manchester Rovers continue to rule the roost in Division Three and a 3-1 win at Heywood St James Reserves preserved their unbeaten record and keep them three points clear at the top.

Their closest rivals are Old StretsGregs eserves who are enjoying a good run of results which continued with a tight 2-1 win over Timperley Villa.

The biggest win of the day came from Sublime Athletic who triumphed 4-0 at Altrincham Hale thirds.

South Manchester also kept an immaculate clean sheet beating Village Manchester reserves 3-0.

The other two games were close, with AFC Stockport Warriors winning 2-1 win at Trafford United Reserves while Saddleworth 3D won 4-2 against Spurley Hey.

Moston Brook Thirds are six points clear at the top of Division A but they were taken all the way at Fittonhill AllStars in a 2-1 win.

Dropping vitals points were Didsbury Reserves who were held 2-2 at Irlam Steel Rangers Reserves and Waterhead who went down 3-2 at Stafford Argyle.

Manchester Saints were unstoppable in a 9-2 win at AFC Oldham and the goals also flowed for Newton Vikings in a 7-1 cruise hosting Milnrow Firgrovia.

The other game was another thriller with Salford United edging a 4-3 win hosting Bury Ams A.

Signol Athletic stay in control of Division B with an efficient 5-1 win over Moston Brook Fourths.

Santos U23 played hosts to Stoconians Reserves, running out victorious 9-4. Stocs took control of the first half with a lead of 2-0 but Santos came out roaring for the second half and got two early goals with penalties from Aaron Ray and Jackson Fulton.

Joe Hartley gave Santos the lead before Fulton added another three to his tally. Stocs pulled a goal back, but Blessing Rashidi and Hartley added further goals. A fourth goal for Stocs looked to have completed the scoring late on, but Daniel Carter managed to add a ninth goal in the last minute.

Probably the most amazing game of the day came at Stockport Titans hosting Rushford Park Reserves in a promotion battle.

There were four goals in the first 15 minutes showing where this game was going. The lively Ethan Riley scored after a mazy run in the first minute then Lee McWhirter took advantage of hesitation in the Rushford defence make it 2-0 to the Titans.

Rushford’s Abdul Nassrat scored a wonder cross shot which gave the keeper no chance, followed by an Aiden Malloy tap in at the far post to make the teams even. The second half saw more poor defending and great goal scoring to finish the game at a breathless 7-7!

The other games were competitive contests with Didsbury Thirds beating AFC Oldham Reserves 3-2 while Village Manchester Thirds and Saddleworth 3D Reserves shared four goals.
