Waterloo Narrowly Lose Out in Semi-Final

At last some decent weather allowed a healthy fixture list in the L & C this week along with some County Cup action

County Cups

Manchester Challenge Trophy

In the second of the Manchester Challenge Trophy semi-finals, the L&C’s Waterloo took on Cheshire League side Denton Town and narrowly lost out 1-0, despite playing some excellent football throughout the whole match.

Manchester Amateur Cup

There was a high scoring all L&C clash in the Manchester Amateur Cup with Irlam Tigers winning 6-2 at home to Old Stretfordians Reserves.

League Action

Premier Division

In the Premier Division, with Waterloo on County Cup duty and Rochdalians without a match, Whalley Rang took the opportunity to open up six-point lead at the top with a 5-0 win away at Trafford United.

In the only other match in the division, South Manchester won a tight encounter with Milton 2-1.

Division One

In Division One, Radclyffe continued their high scoring run with an emphatic 7-0 victory at Swinton to maintained position in top spot. That’s sixteen goals in their last two fixtures for Radclyffe.

AFC Oldham continued the chase by beating mid table Signol Old Boys 3-1 followed closely by Chorltonians who won 4-2 at home to Moston Brook.

In the other matches in this division Manchester Polonia won 5-3 against Newton and Old Stretfordians won 4-2 at home to Moston Brook

Division Two

In matches at the top of Division Two saw leaders Dukinfield Athletic dropping points for the second week in a row by drawing 2-2 at home to fourth placed Bedians, whilst North Walkden took the opportunity to close the gap and move into second spot thanks to a 3-1 win against Santos.

The other matches in this division saw Stoconians win 5-1 at home to Chorltonians Reserves and Mellor Reserves take a 3-1 win away at Barr Hill Reserves.

Division Three

In Division Three, leaders Signol Athletic maintained their top spot with a 7-2 win at home to Stoconians Reserves, but the chasing pack are hot on their heels as Chadderton Cott convincingly won 9-4 at Denton Town Reserves and Village Manchester maintained their good form with a 5-1 win away at Milton Reserves.

There were two other matches in this division where Abacus Media Reserves won 5-1 at home against Spurley Hey and Chadderton Park won 6-1 away at Elton Lib Hargreaves.

Division A

In Division A, AFC Stockport maintained their top spot with a 4-0 win away at Moston Brook Reserves and Mellor 3rds kept up the chase with 3-1 wain at home to Trafford United Reserves.
With Old Stretfordians Reserves away on County Cup duty Wythenshawe Wanderers took the opportunity to got joint third with a 2-1 win over AFC Oldham.

In the other matches Salford Storm and Waterloo Reserves shared the points in 4-4 draw and Deans took all the points with a 3-2 win over Rochdale Galaxy.

Division B

In Division B, surprising result of the day was division leaders Parrs Wood Celtic only managing a 2-2 draw away at mid table Chorltonians Athletic. AFC Oldham 3rds maintained their pursuit of the leaders with a 4-1 win at home to lowly Stoconians 3rds whilst third placed Old Stretfordians 3rds continued to put the pressure on with a convincing 7-2 win at Spurley Hey Reserves.

In the mid table clashes, Flixton Juniors took all of the points with a 2-1 win at Bury Amateurs Reserves, Hillgate won 4-2 at home to Moston Brook 3rds and Heaton Mersey shared the pints with Chadderton Cott Reserves in a 3-3 draw.

Division C

In Division C with three of the top four not in action this weekend, Irlam Tiger Rangers seized the moment to up to joint top with an emphatic 10-1 victory at bottom club Moston Brook 4ths.

There were two other matches in this division Altrincham Hale losing 1-0 at home to Govan Athletic ‘A’ and AFC Stockport Warriors winning 5-1 away at Staly Lions.
